Sue Cunningham

Memorial Music Scholarship Fund

Sue Cunningham's love of music started at an early age. Her success as a business professional and "rocket scientist," didn't  replace music as her true love. Known in the Bluegrass Community as "Flying Sue Cunningham," she brought music to life on her 5-string fiddle. Whether singing or playing, Sue's passion for the music she performed captivated those who listened.

Sue's made many contributions to the music world. Recently, she recorded and performed, with Verlon Thompson, "Find Your Angel," a history of the civil war set to music she also co-wrote with Verlon and Frank Serio. She traveled throughout the United States, Europe and Australia with The Rowan Brothers, Hickory Project, White Sales Panhandle Band, and the South Ocean String Band. Throughout her travels, she enjoyed playing as a guest with many of her favorite Bluegrass muscians. While her music expanded over the years, she always enjoyed the opportunity to play with her first band, The Flying Cunninghams, and brothers Tom and Steve.

Despite the demands of both her musical and professional career, Sue found time to help others learn to enjoy and share music. She volunteered her time to teach at festivals and music camps. She frequently would stop and work with a young, inspiring musician after performing. To continue her passion of helping others enjoy and share music, the Sue Cunningham Memorial Scholarship fund has been established. Please see the Donations page for more information.
